“Wheeling is one of the key enablers to provide reliable and sufficient electricity for the economy”
Synopsis
The recent gazetting of the amended Schedule 2 of the Electricity Regulation Act 4 of 2006, which increases the licence exception threshold from 1MW to 100MW, is undoubtedly a progressive step that will greatly assist South Africa in the effort to provide reliable and sufficient electricity for the economy.
Notably, for the first time ‘wheeling’ is specifically mentioned and considered as its own principle in the gazette; but as with most legislation, there are elements that remain open to interpretation and will require clarity.
