Wednesday, 20 May 2026, Johannesburg – Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Nolitha Fakude as its new Vice President. This follows the resignation of former Vice President Adrian Gore, who has recently been appointed as Chairman of Business Leadership South Africa.
In accordance with the BUSA Memorandum of Incorporation, Ms Fakude was nominated and subsequently appointed as a director and Vice President. Reflecting on her appointment, Mxolisi Mgojo, President of BUSA, stated:
“The BUSA Board could not have chosen a better and more suitable candidate for the role of Vice President. Ms Fakude is an experienced business executive with a distinguished leadership career in various large corporations and business associations over many years.”
Ms Fakude currently serves as the Chair of Anglo American South Africa. She has previously held positions on the boards of Anglo American plc, Anglo American Platinum, Sasol Mining, Datacentrix Holdings Limited, Harmony Gold Mines, Woolworths Holdings, and the JSE. Additionally, she is the immediate past president of the International Women’s Forum South Africa (IWFSA) and the Minerals Council South Africa, as well as a former president of the Black Management Forum. She currently serves on the boards of the Minerals Council South Africa, Business Leadership South Africa, Discovery Limited, and is the Patron of Guild Cottage Home for Girls.
Ms Fakude has received numerous accolades, including: the 2004 Most Influential Businesswoman by Financial Mail, the 2004 Impala Platinum Young Entrepreneur Award, the National Honour by the Golden Key Society of the University of Johannesburg, the 2023 Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award, the 2023 Unisa Chancellor’s Award for outstanding public service in business, education, community, government, and empowerment, the 2024 Charlotte Maxeke Chairperson’s Award for exceptional leadership and significant impact on community development, embodying the spirit of positive change and social responsibility, and is the Distinguished Fellow of the National School of Government.
“Her experience in leading key organised business associations, including the Minerals Council and Business Leadership South Africa, will greatly benefit BUSA, and we are grateful for her willingness to serve the business community in this capacity,” said Khulekani Mathe, BUSA CEO.
Ms Fakude is the author of “Boardroom Dancing – Transformation Stories from a Corporate Activist,” published in 2019, and she holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Psychology from the University of Fort Hare and completed the Senior Executive Programme at Harvard Business School in the United States.
We are delighted to welcome Ms Nolitha Fakude to the BUSA family. She will serve as Vice President for the remainder of the current presidency’s term, which lasts until August 2027, with the option for reappointment for an additional three-year term.
