Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), in partnership with Danish Industries (DI), launched a report informed by a series of social dialogues on the Just Energy Transition, with a strong focus on engagement between stakeholders, business and organised labour. The dialogues created a platform for organised business and labour to engage directly on the implications of the energy transition, including job security, economic competitiveness and the pace of reform.
Over the course of the series, stakeholders established a consensus on the guiding principles – the transition must be planned, centered on employment creation and supported by industrial policy, skills development, and social protection systems.
What the dialogues ultimately established is not a solution, but a baseline.
The full report details the positions established in the social dialogue series, the areas of alignment and competing interests, including a proposed mechanism for continued engagement.
